With expert interviews, news and insights into the Java world, the Java Spotlight Podcast provides listeners with a concentrated burst of Java in their ears each week. The 88^th episode featured HTML5 and JavaFX in the programme. Reporter Terrence Barr interviewed Gerrit Grunwald, expert for custom controls and a speaker at this year’s JAX in Mainz. Grunwald explained that desktop applications still make sense, even in the era of HTML5 based web applications, and divulged the advantages offered in this regard by the JavaFX components JFXPanel and WebView. Proposals for the JAX Innovation Awards 2012 have been decided since May 7, 2012. And Canoo is delighted about its nomination as “Most Innovative Java Company”. This accolade honours innovative companies that have successfully implemented projects based on Java technologies. An independent jury preselects from the three categories a shortlist of 15 finalists, who are then pitted against one another in an open community vote. Ballots can be cast for the hot favourites as of May 28, 2012. The grand awards ceremony then takes place on July 9, 2012 at the JAX Conference in San Francisco. We are already very excited…!

Nothing but the finest – and our HTML5 and jQuery Workshop on April 18, 2012 was second to none in this respect. The visit of HTML5 and Ajax expert Nathaniel T. Schutta at our Canoo offices attracted huge interest, as the internationally renowned speaker brought with him the topics HTML5 and jQuery mobile. Meanwhile, by developing their own mobile application, course participants had the chance to see for themselves what both technologies have to offer. During the subsequent practice test on the smartphone, the app generated enormous enthusiasm across the board!

At JAX 2012 people had the opportunity to witness Canoo together with HTML5 in all its facets. At the expo stand our experts closely scrutinized the new trend, drew comparisons with current technologies and clarified issues on the topic of multi-channel. In addition, far removed from the exhibition, our speakers also ensured attendees’ engrossment and enthusiasm. In their keynote speeches at the main conference, Gerrit Grunwald, Andres Almiray, Andreas Hölzl and Dierk König served visitors with a “full broadside”. The Canoo quartet won over the audience with exciting contributions on their favourite technologies. Our HTML5 Day sessions likewise met with huge interest.
